FAIR, Open, Linked: Introducing the Special Issue on Open Science in Musicology


Empirical musicology crucially relies on the creation, publication, distribution, and analysis of data. Despite the progress made over the past decades in this vibrating field, numerous issues regarding the accessibility, sharing, and linkage of data, the reproducibility of research findings, and the general role of transparency remain challenging. In many disciplines, these issues are addressed under the umbrella of the Open Science movement and the adherence to the FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) principles for scientific data management (Wilkinson et al., 2016).

Research Fellow in Cultural Analytics

Fabian C. Moss is a Research Fellow in Cultural Analytics at University of Amsterdam (UvA). He was born in Cologne, Germany, and studied Mathematics and Educational Studies at University of Cologne, and Music Education (Major Piano) and Musicology at Hochschule für Musik und Tanz, Köln. He obtained is PhD in Digital Humanities from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). Working with large symbolic datasets of musical scores and harmonic annotations, he is primarily interested in Computational Music Analysis, Music Theory, Music Cognition, and their mutual relationship.
